従来のシヴィライゼーションのゲームの歴史概念を超え、エイリアン世界における人類の未来を切り開くことによって、人類の文明の発展を推進させます。プレイヤーは対照的な文明の派閥を導いて新しい文明を彼らに選ばれた運命を反映させながら進化していく。直線的でない技術の進化、選択した派閥を詳しくカスタマイズ、そして選択に基づきそれぞれの派閥のアイデンティティそのものを変化させていくエイリアン世界など、プレイヤーは新しいゲームで多くの可能性を経験することになります。

​Exoplanets Map Packには実在する太陽系外惑星に基づいた6種類のカスタムマップが収録されています。新たにゲームを始める度に地形がランダムで作成されますので、繰り返し楽しむ事が出来ます。
